Programs in Stanford’s Office of the Vice Provost for Technology and Learning (VPTL) have been realigned effective September 1, 2020, with the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) returning to the School of Engineering, where it was originally established in 1995.
The Stanford Center for Health Education (SCHE), which extends health education to a global community of health professionals, will continue to report to the School of Medicine. VPTL’s Learning Technologies and Spaces unit has joined the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs (VPSA).
SCPD is a global leader in online and extended education. Located on the Stanford University campus, SCPD works with Stanford faculty, departments, schools, and centers to design and deliver engaging, high-quality online, in-person, and blended learning experiences. The organization supports Stanford teaching teams in the utilization of different pedagogical approaches and technologies to improve faculty impact and learner outcomes for both matriculated students and learners around the world.
SCPD operates and manages Stanford Online, Stanford’s online learning provider, and provides access to credit-bearing courses, certificates and degrees; professional education; group and custom programs, and free and open access content. SCPD also manages a number of technology-rich classrooms and studios as well as a variety of educational technology tools and platforms.
SCPD will continue to support faculty and instructors across the Stanford campus, in all schools and disciplines, in developing online coursework and credentialed education programs for individual learners, along with regionally contextualized custom programs for governments and organizations around the globe. SCPD facilitates increased access to Stanford teaching and research, fostering a global community of learners, working professionals, industry leaders, and Stanford faculty & instructors.
