Teaching on Television and Online
Orientation for Faculty and Teaching Assistants

When teaching a course on television and online, you are reaching a broader student audience than the class in front of you. SCPD students, studying at a distance, will also be learning from lectures and assignments, taking examinations, and undertaking projects. These distance learners are working engineers, scientists, technology professionals and managers in industry and government positions. Many are taking just one course; some are working toward academic certificates; others are in Stanford graduate degree programs.

Attention to distance learners’ educational needs when presenting information in class, communicating with students, and managing course logistics is key to providing a valuable learning experience for the entire class.

The following video offers a brief orientation to SCPD students and to teaching on television and online. Written guidelines, suggested course webpage information to help SCPD students, and speaker release forms are available as pdf files below. We also seek your permission to post the first session of your class as a preview for prospective students. A faculty preview release form is also available below as a pdf file.

Finally, to support courses offered through SCPD, SCPD needs information from faculty on their courses each Quarter. The course set-up information questionnaire below allows you to provide the needed information to us.
