Certificate programs are focused, guided curricula of study specifically designed for working professionals by Stanford faculty. Most certificates offer a choice of elective courses and therefore may be tailored to meet specific needs, interests, and requirements.

A certificate is awarded after the successful completion of three to six courses and provides evidence of knowledge in a specific subject area. Two types of certificates are offered: Graduate Certificates and Professional Certificates.

Certificate programs consist of regular Stanford graduate courses taught by Stanford faculty
Courses are delivered online for study at a distance according to Stanford's quarterly academic schedule
Stanford graduate credit is earned and may later be transferred towards a Stanford master's degree

Courses are short, intensive, and condensed-ranging in time from a few hours online to a few days on campus
In addition to Stanford faculty, courses are taught by industry experts and offer insight into industry trends and best practices
Online study is self-paced and can be scheduled during times that are most convenient for employee and employer
Continuing Education Units and Professional Development Units may be earned
