Benchmarking plays a vital role in developing a well aligned, pro-active Information Technology (IT) organization. The ability to improve an IT organization through establishing and maintaining a performance baseline can yield significant business results, including:

  • Cost savings
  • Cost spending efficiency
  • Identifying IT weaknesses and ways to improve
  • Making industry-specific comparisons to remain competitive
  • Prioritizing IT opportunities for growth
  • Developing realistic IT goals and staying on-track to achieve those goals

The Benchmarking series consists of five modules and a project, taught by Margaret Johnson, Computer Science Senior Lecturer at Stanford University. The certificate program covers IT benchmarking fundamentals, such as:
  • How to identify and collect appropriate metrics, where to obtain benchmark data, how to present results, and data analysis techniques
  • How to incorporate a metrics approach from the very beginning through production
  • How to use data in order to prove the value of the IT organization within the enterprise
The project requires participants to gather data from within their own organization for analysis. View sample report.
