Information for SCPD Students in Aeronautics and Astronautics
The Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) offers degree and non-degree academic courses online and via
television broadcast to both on-campus and off-campus students.
It is possible to complete the Master's degree in the Aeronautics and
Astronautics department through the Honor's Cooperative Program (HCP). The Master's students take Stanford courses part time while employed by one of the
SCPD member companies. Other SCPD options
include Certificate Programs and individual courses for academic credit
through the Non Degree Option (NDO). It is also possible to audit courses.
The links below provide information for prospective and current SCPD students as well as faculty and course assistants
of online classes.
The SCPD website (http://scpd.stanford.edu) has more information on the different programs and options.
If you have further questions regarding SCPD and distance learning in the Aero/Astro department,
please e-mail the Aero/Astro SCPD course advisor (Sean Kamkar) at AA_CourseAdvisor@lists.stanford.edu

Programs offered through SCPD
Honor's Cooperative Program (HCP)
The Honor's Cooperative program allows employed students to study part time towards a graduate degree.
Students enrolled in the HCP program may attend courses either on
campus or online. The students must be employed by one of the
SCPD member companies, and they must be accepted to the degree program through the same application
process as full-time on-campus students. The HCP Master's students
have up to five years to complete the 45 units required
for the degree. Refer to the SCPD website on HCP for more information on the Honor's Cooperative
program, and the Aero/Astro MS website for information on the Master's degree requirements.
Non-Degree Option (NDO):
The SCPD non-degree option allows students to enroll in courses for academic credit without entering
a graduate degree program. The NDO students taking courses for credit
are admitted on a course-by-course basis, and must maintain a 3.0 minimum grade point average to continue
to take credit courses. If later admitted to the
Honors Cooperative Program, up to 18 units of course work can be
transferred from the NDO program towards the Master's degree. The
NDO students can also earn academic certificates by completing a
selected set of courses in a specific subject area. For more information, refer to the SCPD web pages on credit courses and Certificate Programs.
Course Auditing
For information on auditing courses through the SCPD, refer to the
SCPD web page on course auditing .
How to apply and application deadlines
The HCP students go through the standard graduate application process. See the university graduate admission web site, and
the Aero/Astro
admissions page for more information. The current application
deadlines are available here.
The NDO students enroll through the SCPD by completing the SCPD enrollment application form. See the SCPD steps
to enrollment page for more information. The enrollment deadlines are

See the SCPD
Academic Tuition and Fees page for information on the tuition rates.
Information for enrolled students
Courses
A list of televised and online courses is maintained on the SCPD Academic Schedule web page. Information on all
courses offered at Stanford is available through Axess and in the Stanford bulletin.
The Bulletin is issued annually, and lists courses offered during the current academic year. The course information in Axess includes possible updates since the Bulletin was published.
Refer to the Aero/Astro courses and degrees page for information on course requirements for the AA degree programs.
Registration
HCP students must register both with the university and with the SCPD. Each quarter, the students register with the
university by submitting a study list through Axess. For registration with the SCPD, see the SCPD steps to
enrollment web page.
NDO students only need to submit the enrollment application to the SCPD when applying to the program. No separate registration with the university is required.
Refer to the SCPD steps to enrollment web site for information on the application/registration process.
Viewing televised and online courses
Most students view SCPD courses through Stanford Online. Other course delivery options include microwave broadcast for local member companies, two-way video,
and video tape instruction (by special arrangement only). See the SCPD course delivery options
page for more information. The online courses can be accessed through the SCPD online classroom.
The SCPD Tech Center provides instructions for setting up and viewing videos delivered by Stanford Online.
Course materials and exams
Textbooks and course readers: Textbooks and course readers can be ordered directly from the Stanford bookstore.
The SCPD does not deliver them to the students.
Handouts and homework assignments: Most handouts and assignments are available on course websites. The SCPD can
send the students course material not available online. The students submit homework by fax or by e-mail. Refer to the
SCPD course materials web page for more information.
Exams: All HCP and NDO students must designate an exam monitor for midterms and finals by submitting
an Exam Monitor form with the SCPD in the beginning of each quarter. See the SCPD
Exam Monitor page for further information.
Deadlines
Please review the current deadlines at http://scpd.stanford.edu/scpd/enrollInfo/deadlines/. Note that some of the SCPD deadlines are a few days earlier than
