There are no specific requirements for the program, however you will need basic programming skills. Also, the program is intended for a graduate level audience. How long does it take to finish? The Software Security Foundations certificate program is about 6 hours worth of video material and an multiple choice exam is required to complete the certificate. What are the differences between the Software Security Foundations Certificate and CS 155? The Software Security Foundations Certificate Program consists of three short-courses, which are meant to provide experienced software engineers in industry with an intensive overview of computer security. You will not receive academic credit for these courses, although you are eligible for 1 CEU. CS155 and CS255 are regular academic, quarter long courses that provide a more in-depth study of computer security and can contribute towards a degree at Stanford. No, there is no direct interaction with the instructor. However, if you have specific questions we can arrange email contact. Is there a professional development Certificate for Software Security Foundations course? Yes. Upon finishing the online course and completing the necessary requirements, a certificate, signed by the Associate Dean of the School of Engineering is awarded to participants as confirmation that they have gained techniques in the foundations of Software Security. How do I earn a Software Security Foundations Certificate? You must complete all the video modules, receive a 90% on the final examination and submit the program evaluation. What is a Certificate of Completion? It is a document signed by Andy DiPaolo, Associate Dean of the School of Engineering, that you have completed a specific course. Can I get Continuing Education Units (CEU's)? Yes. How many CEU's will I earn for this course? 1 CEU. Can I get a transcript for this course? You need to register for a CEU in order to request a transcript from the University. Are there tests for this course? Yes, there is 1 test per course consisting of 5 questions which are taken at the end of each class in Computer Security. You must pass with 100% accuracy. You have 3 chances to pass the exam. If you do not pass on the 3rd try you are NO longer eligible to earn the “Computer Security Certificate”. However, you may still take the exam to earn a “Certificate of Completion” How are the tests graded and submitted? The tests are taken online. Once you submit your answers you will be given the results. Is there homework? No. Are there any additional course materials such as textbooks for this course? All of the materials are available electronically. Do I have to be a member to take a Pro Ed course? No. Do you offer scholarships? Discounts? We do not offer scholarships. Group discounts can be arranged by contacting 650.725.9200. When can I start? When do the classes start? At any time. Do I have to take this course at a specific time? When is it available? Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. How long do I have to complete the course? Once you have enrolled you will be given an username & password that will give you access to the course for 90 days. What happens if I don't complete the course on time? If you do not finish the course within the 90 day time frame, you may request 1 30-day extension for free. After that, you will be charged an administrative fee for extensions. Can I share access with a friend? No. Passwords are confidential and unchangeable. Passwords are for individual use only; sharing access is prohibited and violates the purchase agreement. All of the materials for this program are copyright protected and owned by Stanford University. Reproduction of any kind is prohibited. What are CEU's? Continuing Education Units (CEU's). 10 hours of class work equals 1 CEU. If you require a transcript from the University, you will need to register for CEU's. CEU''s are not available for any class that is less than 10 hours in length. Why am I charged $75 for CEU's? This is a processing fee charged to SCPD by the central University to grant CEU's. How and when do I get my CEU's? CEU's are requested ONLY AFTER you have completed your course. Please send email to proed@scpdinfo.stanford.edu upon c ourse completion. Since CEU's are processed quarterly, you should wait until 2 weeks after the start of the next academic quarter to request a transcript from the University. |
