SCPD offers distance learning graduate and professional development courses to over 450 member companies worldwide.
More than 5,000 students completing post-graduate Stanford degrees have taken courses through SCPD.
Over 5,000 students take SCPD courses every year.
SCPD offers more than 250 Stanford graduate courses and Professional Education courses.
First graduates of the Stanford Advanced Project Management program received the credential of Stanford Certified Project Manager in March 2001.
All courses taped for online delivery are mounted and integrated with sound and graphics within 2 hours of the "live" class broadcast.
SCPD delivers graduate programs to companies as far away as Tokyo and Hong Kong.
Historical Highlights
1954:  Employees of private companies enroll in graduate classes under the new Honors Cooperative Program, which opens with three companies and 23 students. This program helps local industries recruit graduating engineering seniors from across the country, and plays an important role in the creation of an outstanding engineering population in the Bay Area.
Stanford Instructional Television Network (SITN) first broadcast Stanford graduate engineering courses to Silicon Valley companies in 1969.
The Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) was created in 1995.
Stanford Online was developed in 1996, using technology (streaming video) first developed at Stanford.
Stanford Online was recognized as the "Most Significant Advancement in Distance Learning for 1997" by the U.S. Distance Learning Association.
In 1998, SCPD introduced the world's first fully online Master of Science in Engineering Degree.
