As SCPD's Engineering Manager, Mark Morgan is ultimately responsible for every television-related system in SCPD's nine classrooms and Master Control, 24/7, before signals are broadcast to remote sites or are produced for online delivery. He has held the position for four years, after 10 years as a Senior Science and Engineering Technician at SCPD, and 15 years in both commercial and public broadcasting prior to moving to Stanford.

Working at an institution of Stanford's caliber has always had a special appeal to Morgan. "In commercial and public broadcasting, the work was usually incredibly repetitive and, frankly, unchallenging. At Stanford, you're always being asked to push the envelope, to try something new—the work itself is stimulating. It's exciting to have nuts and bolts relationships to some of the technology that is common today."

Morgan supervises SCPD's technicians as well as performing technical work himself. He points out that his staff's collective broadcasting experience contributes to the world-class reputation of SCPD's distance education delivery. "Each of SCPD's technicians has more than a decade of experience in television," he says. "People don't always realize that we've been broadcasting courses for more than thirty years at Stanford, and teleconferencing for the last decade and a half. We are good at what we do."
