Eve Byer, Professional Education Program Coordinator, is the go-to person for most SCPD ProEd programs. "I handle inquiries and registrations," she says, "but this is just a small part of what I do. I give the individual program managers at SCPD whatever support they needfrom administrative functions to on-campus logistics." Byer grew up in the Bay area and earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford in 1998. "I went into teaching, but after a few years I knew I wanted something new, with different challenges. I temped on the Stanford campus and remembered just how much I love it here." When the position opened in November 2004, Byer went for it. "SCPD's a good blend for me, being a business but also part of the more familiar academic world. I'm still in education, but I am constantly upping my skills, learning about online education and experiencing a new culture." The intensity at SCPD is enjoyable to Byer. "Teaching prepared me for that," she says. "The most rewarding thing, though, is being part of something from beginning to end. I sit in on the marketing meetings, meetings with the professors and participate in all phases of a programit's all fascinating. The program managers definitely push the boundaries, constantly challenging me. They're excellent mentorsI'll take every single opportunity they give me. It's fun working on the forefront of innovation, and I love learning." |
