Brian Cabbab oversees and supervises operations for Stanford's Instructional Television Network (SITN): equipment installation and operation in nine studio classrooms and the video conferencing center, scheduling, quality control and support during live broadcast, and video tape production. The job involves a balance of research, management and student training. "I work with the newest technology and do hands-on research, which I love," says Cabbab, "but I also train the student operators-the people running the equipment in the classroom-to interact with them a lot. I really think I like that the best."

Cabbab came from a similar position at the University of Hawaii. "My wife and I wanted to live somewhere new. I was born in Hawaii and I love it, but coming to Stanford gave me the chance to deal with a higher level of responsibility and challenge in my work, and to have new experiences…like skiing. I'd never even seen snow, let alone ski in it! It's good to break out of what's familiar in your life."

When asked what he enjoys the most about Stanford itself, Cabbab says, "Of course the people. The group I work with are great-the students and my co-workers. Beyond that I also have to say this: Stanford lends itself to learning. It challenges you to learn, whether you are a student or an employee."
