New Professional Course Interface - Limited Release

A new Professional Education interface has been introduced for a limited number of courses beginning Autumn 2009.

Interface to view professional courses

What's New

The new Professional Education interface offers a much larger video window as well as the ability for users to take their own notes online. The notes function offers pre-populated index points created by the course subject matter expert as well as the ability for individual users to take their own notes (which are saved to his/her profile and accessible during future viewings). PDF versions of the lecture slides are available within the interface and viewers can navigate among session videos directly from the interface. If using the Windows Media Player (WMP) based interface, variable speed playback controls are available.

Frequently Asked Questions: Troubleshooting Professional Education Courses

I click on the video link, but nothing happens. What should I do?
Upon clicking a video link, the video user interface will pop-up in a new browser window. Pop-up blocker software and internet security applications may block this action. If the video player does not launch when clicking the link, you will need to adjust Pop-up Blocker Settings:

  • Internet Explorer:

    • Select Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy
    • Click the "Settings" button under "Pop-up Blocker"
    • Type "myvideos.stanford.edu" in the "Address of website to allow" box and click "Add"
    • Type "myvideosu.stanford.edu" in the "Address of website to allow" box and click "Add"
    • Type "myvideosv.stanford.edu" in the "Address of website to allow" box and click "Add"
  • Firefox:

    • Select Tools -> Options -> Content
    • Click the "Exceptions" button next to "Block pop-up windows"
    • Type "myvideos.stanford.edu" in the "Address of website" box and click "Allow"
    • Type "myvideosu.stanford.edu" in the "Address of website" box and click "Allow"
    • Type "myvideosv.stanford.edu" in the "Address of website" box and click "Allow"
  • Safari:

    • Select Edit -> Preferences -> Security
    • Uncheck the box next to "Block pop-up windows"

**Disable or adjust settings on all other third-party pop-up blockers installed on your computer.

How do I view slides?
When the interface initially launches, the slides load as pdf in the area to the right of the video screen. You may also wish to print the slides to follow along and take notes as you go, this can be done by clicking the "Printable Slides" link in each Session on the course homepage. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the slides.

How do I create a Note?
Click "Create Note" to add a new item to the clickable table of contents. Enter the new note in the text box, and choose either "Share" or "Don't Share" The index point will appear in the list of Notes. Click "Create Note" again to create more!

  • When you click "Create Note" the timecode is grabbed and entered into the time fields. This is where the video will jump to when you click on the note that you just created. You can adjust the time if needed.
  • If you click "Share" and check "Class" the notes will be shared with anyone enrolled in the course.
