“The in-depth knowledge and experience we learned through this program will bring numerous benefits for us as individuals in our professional life and also for our respective organizations.”

What made you decide to pursue Stanford’s professional certificate in project management?

Wow, that was a hard decision to make! There were so many options to choose from but I wanted to participate in activities that would be special, competitive, and practical, and after researching course descriptions at the SCPD APM website, I decided to pursue the professional certificate in project management at Stanford.

What was your favorite course from the Stanford Advanced Project Management Program?

Hmm… I would say Project Risk Management because it gives you a completely different perspective of the project activities and other aspects of practical life and helps to control and anticipate risks in advance. The concept of the “Flaw of Averages” was something new and unique to discover and learn for me.

How did what you have learned help you in your career?

I probably benefited more from the course than I expected, because I was able to map my studies with my previous work experience and also with the internal organizational processes of my current employer. I liked how the the PMO practices were streamlined well enough so that they could be adapted to any business area or industry. It helped me enhance my capabilities and effectiveness as an Enterprise Project Manager.

What topics in the course have you found particularly useful to help advance your career?

I would say the Strategic Execution Framework (SEF) because it was covered in detail. It focused on all of the important aspects and life cycle of strategic alignment of an organization with its portfolio, programs, and projects. I think that this concept provides you with an in-depth understanding of how processes should integrate and work in any organization. It basically enables participants to apply the knowledge and gain advantage at any scale like from startup to enterprise level.

I consider myself fortunate to be a part of the SCPD and APM community. We all feel a great sense of pride in the skills we have learned during the program. The in-depth knowledge and experience we learned through this program will bring numerous benefits for us as individuals in our professional life and also for our respective organizations.
